Behind the Session

Unbodied Project

The UnBodied Project

This project was a topic that holds a lot of space in my heart.

The Unbodied Project was about shedding fears and limiting beliefs that no longer serve us. It is about throwing up your middle finger to societal standards. Society says we need to look, act, be a certain weight/shape/size whatever. But SCREW that.

Growing up we all saw the women in the magazines and compared ourselves to them.
It’s time we step up and create our own space.

I launched this project in March and was so thankful for the ladies who stepped up to the challenge, put their fears and hesitations aside, and put themselves first for once.

Without Further Adieu….

Summer

Summer was an absolute gem! This gal is the definition of fun—her humor and vibrant personality light up every room she walks into. She’s not just funny; she’s the kind of person who makes everything more enjoyable just by being around. Her session was filled with so much laughter and joy, and it was an absolute blast getting to capture her playful, radiant spirit.

Tell me a little bit about you; family life, hobbies, background, how you grew up…etc.

I’m a single mom of two, ages 22 and 15. I love the beach and would live there if possible. I enjoy going to the river and hanging around a pool if I can’t be at the beach. I’m interested in the occult and practice several Wiccan rituals but I don’t necessarily consider myself to be Wiccan. I love reading and binge watching streaming shows.

Why have you chosen to have a Boudoir Session? What are you most excited about?

I had thought about doing one for a while. My friend had a session and raved about it. I chose to take the plunge because of the discount. The money aspect was one major thing deterring me since I’m a single mom. I took it as a sign to sign up immediately.

What would you say to people who say they can’t do a boudoir session because they are too shy, nervous, etc?

It’s very empowering. It also makes it so much easier that you’re so supportive and encouraging. I wasn’t embarrassed at all.

What are some expectations society has put on women, that you think are absurd or unrealistic standards?

Women are expected to be a certain size, act sweet and docile, raise kids and not complain, but also work hard and keep the house clean and be sexy and let the men call the shots all at the same time. Women’s rights are slowly being stripped away because these beliefs are held by those in power.

How do you think a boudoir session can help shed the weight of some of those standards?

As I said before, it’s very empowering. It made me feel in control and confident and a little naughty.

Notes or anything details, you would like to add?

I would encourage anyone to have a session just to experience it if nothing else. It was fun and the reveal was exciting.

Martenel

Oh my gosh, Martenel! I absolutely LOOOVED her! From the moment we met, I was obsessed with getting to know her. This girl has a STORY—one that’s as inspiring as it is unique. We first crossed paths at a bridal show, and I was thrilled when she later decided to book the Unbodied Project. Martenel brought such incredible energy and authenticity to her session. Getting to capture her  and be a part of her journey was truly unforgettable.

Tell me a little bit about you; family life, hobbies, background, how you grew up…etc.

I’m 25 and have a 4 year old daughter. I love to sing and dance and cook and I use to model before I had A’morea.

Why have you chosen to have a Boudoir Session? What are you most excited about?

To make me feel more comfortable and confident with myself. I haven’t been for a long time and I want to feel better about myself.

What would you say to people who say they can’t do a boudoir session because they are too shy, nervous, etc?

It doesn’t matter Shelly helps you feel comfortable at the session so it’s definitely worth it

What are some expectations society has put on women, that you think are absurd or unrealistic standards?

Standards on how a women should look, how our hair should be worn in workplaces, how we should shoulder the world and men get the credit for it.

How do you think a boudoir session can help shed the weight of some of those standards?

It makes you feel less insecure about your yourself. It makes you don’t think about the standards society have placed on women of todays society.

Lisa

Lisa is nothing short of incredible, and I could go on forever about her. We had been following each other for years, and finally meeting her in person was such an honor. Lisa is a fierce advocate for women and their defense, and her passion shines through in everything she does. This amazing woman drove over seven hours one way just to work with me! Her adventurous spirit and dedication to empowering women are truly inspiring. It was a privilege to be part of her journey and capture her bold, beautiful self.

Tell me a little bit about you; family life, hobbies, background, how you grew up…etc.

I live with my partner of 20 years. We have 2 cats and I have a bonus son from my first marriage. I grew up in a single parent home starting at the age of 9. I have been retired since 2020 and love it! I have a ton of hobbies – some of which are belly dance , reading, crochet, gardening, exercise, floating in my pool in the summer and travel.

Why have you chosen to have a Boudoir Session? What are you most excited about?

I followed you on social media for quite a while and was very intrigued by the idea and loved your philosophy and the work you were doing. Getting the change to be part of this project along with turning 60 helped me to take the leap as I felt like at this age it was now or never LOL

What would you say to people who say they can’t do a boudoir session because they are too shy, nervous, etc?

IF it is something you really want to do, GO FOR IT!! Shelly will make you feel comfortable and beautiful. It is an amazing experience and I am so glad I did it!

What are some expectations society has put on women, that you think are absurd or unrealistic standards?

That we should all be “perfect” and live up to the standards we see in media of models who are super thin. I think this is getting better than when I grew up but I still think it is a problem.

How do you think a boudoir session can help shed the weight of some of those standards?

The session helps you to see yourself as a beautiful woman no matter what size or shape you are.

Notes or anything details, you would like to add?

Enjoy your session and know that you are worth it!!

STEPHANIE

Stephanie first reached out a couple of years before deciding to book her session. When she finally did, she chose the Unbodied Project as a gift for her future husband and, more importantly, as a gift to herself. As a mom, it’s easy to put everyone else first and hard to justify spending time and money on yourself. But Stephanie knew she deserved it—a moment to celebrate her strength, beauty, and individuality. Her session was more than just photos; it was an empowering experience and a reminder of her worth.

Tell me a little bit about you; family life, hobbies, background, how you grew up…etc.

Mother of 4 but mom of 9. Grandma to 13. Family and time spent with them making memories is my favorite thing to do. I was raised by a single mom and grand parents. As I got older, our mom moved us from place to place. What I lacked then (putting down roots) is what I’m trying to give my family. In doing so, I’ve always made sure others were taken care of and let my own self go.

Why have you chosen to have a Boudoir Session? What are you most excited about?

I wanted to do something for myself to break the mold about how I feel about myself and they way I look at my body.

What would you say to people who say they can’t do a boudoir session because they are too shy, nervous, etc?

If you haven’t already scheduled your session, what are you waiting for? The only person holding you back is yourself.

What are some expectations society has put on women, that you think are absurd or unrealistic standards?

Oh my, you have to be skinny with the perfect portioned body. The barbie type. I know at some point we have all dreamed about looking like that.

How do you think a boudoir session can help shed the weight of some of those standards?

We are all different shapes and sizes. Through our genetics to what we eat. The world needs to realize we are all individuals. So, let’s break those ideas and standards to show the world we are independent, courageous, bold women.

Notes or anything details, you would like to add?

If you are feeling shy, Shelly will help. She is absolutely amazing!
